"The memory of the city society" - this is the mission of the city of Winnenden for a completely new virtual city museum. As part of the town's digitization strategy, the digital agency Frank und Freunde was commissioned to present Winnenden's 800-year history in a bundled form on the web for the first time. .FUF was thus awarded the contract from the public tender resulting from the funding provided by the town of Winnenden. As an added value for the entire municipality and the region, visitors from out of town, schoolchildren and locals alike should get to know the town on an exciting and interactive website.
In addition to the technical implementation, i.e. the programming of the website, the Internet agency .FUF is also responsible for the complete design and content concept of the virtual city museum. The aim is to do justice to Winnenden's claim to be a digital municipality of the future in Baden-Württemberg and thus to achieve a modern presentation of the city's history - as well as its present - during development.
User experience with Drupal
Frank und Freunde pursues the goal of packaging the content in a digital appearance worth seeing and at the same time making its informative character accessible. A clear and content-rich information architecture is the basis for an optimal user experience. Along with this, the relevant objects such as exhibits, old newspaper articles, historical documents or records from surrounding communities must be reprocessed and then transferred to a database in order to integrate them flexibly into the new website. In combination with interactive elements, visitors should ultimately experience the city's history in a completely new way.
Drupal 8 was chosen as the content management system for the project, with Frank und Freunde particularly impressed by the CMS's simple editorial usability and its flexibility to meet the various design and functional requirements. Drupal also scores highly when working with structured data, which reduces the maintenance effort - both from a technical and editorial point of view.
