At our Stuttgart-based Internet agency .FUF, we have always placed great emphasis on the targeted promotion of young talent. With the TYPO3 relaunch of azubitv.de, we wanted to showcase the diversity and opportunities offered by skilled trades and thus inspire young people to train in and around Stuttgart. The basic concept from the noughties, which also came from .FUF, won the German Crafts Award at the time. So the bar was set high. Our solution for 2016 onwards: a full-service offer based on TYPO3 for interested parties with authentic videos of current trainees and an apprenticeship search function - including for applicants with disabilities. Since we're talking about the "millennial generation" here, the site naturally comes in a responsive web design and is linked to social media channels such as Instagram and YouTube. To further reduce the inhibition threshold for applying, a contact person including telephone number and email address is listed for each individual trainee vacancy. And if you get stuck, you can contact the azubiTV team at any time. Whereas in the past you had to laboriously search for everything on various websites, azubitv.de now presents everything that prospective trainees want to find out at a glance and a click.
What sounds so simple was actually quite complex on closer inspection. Because the content had to be compiled in detail and prepared in a database in a meaningful way. And of course the trainee videos: We had to design, cast, shoot, edit and post-produce these. We implemented Solr in TYPO3 so that the prospective trainees could find all the information on the 130 trades on the website, making it even quicker and easier to search the database.
The feedback on the relaunch has been extremely positive so far. The site was barely online before the first training companies were already receiving inquiries and emails from potential trainees. And the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Skilled Crafts is also very satisfied: Lars-Christian Daniels from the Chamber of Skilled Crafts commented "We are getting great feedback on what the new website has to offer, not only during our InfoTour at schools in the region, but also at training fairs and on social networks."
Incidentally, the previous version of azubiTV had already found imitators (or the time was simply ripe for it): The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Housing is looking for trainees on gut-ausgebildet.de with a very similar concept.
A collaboration has developed from this - suitable trainee videos are now exchanged between the two portals.
