Creating an Opportunity for more Possibilities
In view of climate change and its limited presence in the classroom, Harald Lesch developed the program "Climate Change School". Previously, the website only ran on Wordpress, which made it difficult for editors to quickly maintain, change or simply update content. Among other things, the translation of teaching materials into English and Spanish will also be simplified thanks to Drupal's simplified and automatic functions.
The decision to relaunch with Drupal was quickly made from a strategic point of view. This is because Drupal is particularly suitable for growing, multi-layered and complex digital projects, which can be optimized and adapted more easily. Of course, the sustainability of the learning program is also an important aspect. The teaching material is now available online and digitally thanks to the website.
However, the educational program on climate change is not only innovative and contemporary because it dispenses with a paper-based lesson plan, but also because it informs pupils in an entertaining way and encourages sustainable environmental awareness.
Another important aspect was the precise implementation of the existing digital design in Drupal. The previously designed Wordpress theme had been developed to guarantee a very specific display of content. More Specifically: Teachers with all kinds of technical knowledge should easily be able to present the content without having to take long to search for materials.
However, even the more tech-savvy students should not be distracted by an overloaded website. The design must be simple and clear in order to focus on the content, while still being interesting enough to attract attention.
HP5 Media Plug-In
In addition to the typical content migration, familiarization and interface adjustments, the technical basis for the new editing options also had to be laid. The H5P plug-in was particularly helpful here, as it provides an interactive learning platform for the students. The plug-in is integrated into the website and is therefore an essential part of the climate change education program. Large parts of the material are supported by video recordings and animations, which are stored on the website in a video library. This helps young pupils to understand and learn about this comprehensive topic.
The Success
Interchangeable Content for more Education
By upgrading the climate change school to Drupal, content can now be updated and exchanged more easily. Pupils can be taught to understand climate change in a preventive and sustainable way without, ironically, having to learn on print out papers. In addition, the range of services is now no longer limited to German school lessons, but can also be provided in other languages. We are pleased to have made a small contribution to a more sustainable future.
